Location: Host Terminals - Davant, LA

United Bulk Terminals is the largest bulk terminal on the U.S. Gulf Coast and provides a complementary asset to Host's growing network and services. The site specializes in coal and petcoke, with capacity for other bulk commodities.

: Interact with Team Leaders to provide direction to the Team Members in the execution of the daily terminal activities. Assist in coordinating and correctly documenting the daily and future operations of the terminal, which include, but are not limited to vessel loading/discharging, barge loading/unloading and barge flow of the upper and lower fleets.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

[Administration Duties]
  • Enter time entries into system "BOSS."
  • Ensuring all delays over 15 minutes have a provided explanation.
  • All shift reporting completed in "GoCanvas".
  • Vessel file paperwork preparations / collection
  • Configuring AM reports with "BOSS" Data
[Communication]
  • Ordering of Pilots
  • Serving as the primary point of contact with Agents
  • Surveyor ordering / coordination
  • Barge sampling set ups with sampling company, coordination with customers.
  • SAI sampling on vessel coordination
  • 0700 / 1900 hrs VSL update report to agents / customers
  • Providing berthing updates to Agents
  • Being the primary point of contact with Line Boat dispatcher, including answering general questions and responding in a timely fashion.
  • Consistently following up with the line boat dispatch for updated arrival times of inbound loads and for outbound empties to be picked up.
[Scheduling]
  • Daily vessel line up
  • Inbound Line Boat line up schedule
  • Ensure the Line Boat schedule is communicated to both HOST and Alexis
  • Scheduling Inbound schedule for loads
  • Scheduling outbound schedule for empties
  • Updating 24-hour shift report in the AM basis what Night shift accomplished on barge movements. Keeping
  • Update the barge quantities for Day shift to target completion.
  • Closely monitoring lower fleet for barge openings. Need to ensure that there is sufficient space for inbound line boats barge arrivals.
  • Ensure Prep work with Alexis is being done ahead of line boat arrival to ensure space is opened up.
[ Tug / Barge Swap]
  • Being that primary point of contact with all station units for barge swaps being called into the dispatcher.
  • Update Barge swap sheet as barge swaps are called in, and follow up to ensure barge swaps are completed.
  • Maintain close supervision on Alexis tug movements and where they are in the fleet during shift. Follow up with Tugs if boats are not moving or there are delays.
  • Follow up for why delays with tugs are happening and ensure proper documentation is completed.
  • Configuring resolutions in a timely manner to ensure that boats are moving barges if any issue arrives.
[Operations Coordination]
  • Attending all shift meetings
  • Ensuring an expedited handover with supervisors at start of the shift to ensure work plan.
  • Handover meeting with outgoing / inbound dispatchers.
Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • 3 years minimum related experience in relatable environment required.
  • Expert level Excel (connecting external data, consolidating data, using PivotTables, charting data and formatting charts) required.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook required. Microsoft Visio experience a plus.
  • Able to manage the varied tasks associated with multiple projects, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and beat deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail, acumen, organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle personal and confidential information.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and contribute in every aspect to a team environment.
Physical Requirements:
  • Primarily will be an office setting with minimal physical stressors. However, on occasion will visit terminal sites where walking, ascending and descending flights of stairs, light lifting, bending/stooping, and reaching above shoulder level.
  • Sitting for long periods of time, standing, walking, crouching and kneeling.
