Job Position Available: Field Support Engineer, Autonomous Boats

Chance Maritime Technologies is looking for qualified candidates for the position of a Field Support Engineer in Lafayette, Louisiana. This role consists of operating and maintaining equipment in the emerging market of USVs (Uncrewed Surface Vehicles). USVs consist of many mechanical and electrical systems functioning together with software to create a reliable solution for a wide array of maritime applications.

As a Field Support Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the operating, maintaining, and servicing of USVs. You will also be required to assist in technical support and training for customers, mobilization, integration, operation, and demobilization of USV projects, assistance in USV design and fabrication, as well as assist in design, fabrication, and servicing of USV auxiliary equipment, USV payloads or sensor packages, and any other task as required within your field of expertise.

This position requires a minimum Bachelor of Science degree or 2 years of experience consisting of a combination of hydrographic survey, robotics, offshore, and small boat experience.

The position entails 25-50% travel.

Key Responsibilities:

? Responsible for commissioning, testing, operation, and maintenance of marine Autonomous Surface Vehicles (both on and off the water) of the electrical, mechanical, and software systems.

? Must keep organized and detailed records, logs, issues, and checklists for a variety of operationally essential tasks

? Must coordinate and communicate effectively with other team members and management

? Supporting the ongoing operation and maintenance of the vehicles when deployed at customer locations including investigation and diagnosis of any technical issues the vehicle and its control system may experience

? Interacting directly with customers, prospective clients, and their representatives when the vehicles are deployed in the field at customer locations or during demonstrations

? This role will require worldwide travel, potentially at short notice.

Requirements:

? Available for extensive travel and periods working offshore on a vessel or at customer facilities off-site

? This position requires the ability to obtain a TWIC card.

? This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Applicants must be a U.S. Person as per 22 CFR 120.15 in order to satisfy export compliance requirements.

? To be self-directed, organized, systematic, punctual, and goal oriented.

? Understand and utilize effective troubleshooting techniques to resolve software, electrical, and mechanical system issues

? Basic networking knowledge of IP addresses, subnets and routing.

? Experience in the set up and fault finding of complex electrical and mechanical systems

? Electrical knowledge, including the ability to understand electrical diagrams, understanding of various components such as relays, actuators, and the ability to investigate and trace electrical issues.

? The ability to quickly locate the cause of a problem from a set of symptoms and the ability to either resolve locally or liaise effectively with shore-based support teams to ensure such problems are dealt with quickly and efficiently.

? To have strong organizational abilities, oral & written communications, and interpersonal skills.

? Ability to lift 50 pounds occasionally

? Ability to safely climb ladders or stairs repeatedly

? Ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces

? All candidates must be able to pass a UKOOA or OGUK physical

Desirable:

? Basic boat handling skills and competency

? UAV drone experience

? Linux system management and admin experience in a headless environment.

? Experience in the field of unmanned vehicles and/or robotics

? Experience with marine electrical systems and sensors, including experience with NMEA2000 and NMEA0183 protocols

? Experience in working with basic mechanical systems such as marine engines, actuators

? PLC programming knowledge in structured text and use of debugging tools

? Experience working in the offshore environment

? Experience with, and interest in, the marine and/or offshore environment (either through business or leisure activities)

? Current Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training (BOSIET) would also be an advantage, but such training will be provided if necessary
