The School of Architecture and Design at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, 9-month appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position requires a probationary period before tenure consideration, based on performance and potential. Candidates must have a strong academic record and an appropriate terminal degree. The typical teaching load per semester includes 6 credit hours of studio instruction and 3 credit hours of support course instruction. The ideal candidate will provide expertise in digital design and visualization techniques through all levels of both the architecture and interior design programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching courses that integrate design principles with digital modeling and representation, including iterating between analog and digital design methods. The candidate will play a vital role in the School's curriculum, bringing their expertise to both representation courses and to studio coursework. An aspect of this position is mentoring students while fostering a respectful and fair learning environment.
Responsibilities include developing curriculum and instruction for digital foundations across the school's discipline of architecture, industrial design, and interior design. This may include hybrid or online coursework. The candidate will also teach co-curricular required support coursework, seminars, and studio courses in upper division of Architecture and Interior Design curricula as suited to the candidate's experience, expertise, and discipline. This may include hybrid or online coursework. The candidate will enhance the School's curriculum and course offerings in digital design and visualization. They will establish a rigorous research agenda, provide guidance and leadership in fostering a welcoming and supportive learning environment for all students, and contribute to committee tasks, advise students, and engage in service activities that advance the mission of the Program, School, College, and the University.
Salary range is commensurate with experience. Start-up funds may be available. The anticipated starting date for the position is August 1, 2026.
Qualifications include a terminal degree (i.e. Ph.D., M.F.A., D.Des, or Master in Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field). Candidates who show clear evidence of planned receipt of the degree by the beginning of employment will be considered. Expertise in a range of modeling and visualization software, and a variety of graphic communication techniques is required. The candidate should have an aptitude for working with students with limited experience in digital design, potential for contributions to peer-reviewed scholarly and/or creative endeavor, commitment to maintain currency with emerging technologies and methods of practice through attentiveness to professional development, aptitude for interdisciplinary collaboration, and aptitude for supporting student persistence toward program completion, personal well-being, and professional success.
